TOWN OF GLOCESTER - CHIEF OF POLICE POSTED APRIL 2, 2026 The Town of Glocester, Rhode Island, is seeking candidates for Chief of Police. Under the general direction of the Glocester Town Council, the Chief of Police is the chief administrative officer of the Glocester Police Department and subordinate functions including Police Dispatch, the Animal Control Department and Emergency Management. The Chief is responsible for effective and efficient operation of the Public Safety Department, enforcement of rules and regulations, and the enforcement of all laws within the Town’s jurisdiction. The Chief is the final departmental authority on all matters relating to policy, procedures, operations and discipline. This position is appointed by and reports to the Glocester Town Council.
Qualifications include the ability to communicate effectively and develop successful working relationships with the Glocester Town Council, Town Finance and Human Resources Directors, police command structure, rank and file, community groups, business community and the public.
Skill in budgeting and program management and a public service orientation toward accomplishing the police mission are essential. Candidates should have knowledge of and ability in contemporary policing techniques including crime prevention, drug/alcohol prevention and enforcement efforts, and juvenile programs, as well as good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook).
Other qualifications includes a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, public administration or similar discipline, or comparable work experience, and at least ten (10) years of law enforcement experience above the level of patrol officer, with at least five (5) years of experience at the level of lieutenant, captain or above in a state or municipal police department. The Chief must have and maintain an active motor vehicle operator’s license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Candidates must pass a rigorous background check, including a state and national criminal background check and must have a pristine service record.

HUMAN SERVICES DRIVER POSTED SEPTEMBER 17, 2025 The Town of Glocester is seeking a back-up Human Services Driver to operate Town vehicles (automobiles and a seven-passenger van) to transport eligible citizens, primarily elderly residents, for medical appointments and short shopping trips.
Back-up drivers are on-call employees who work as needed when a primary driver is absent or unavailable. Trips are typically scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or as scheduled by the Director of Human Services.
Principal duties include driving, boarding and discharging passengers; escorting passengers to and from the front door of their destinations; carrying up to two (2) packages per passenger not to exceed 20 pounds each; and assuring that the vehicle is in good working order, clean inside and properly maintained.
The successful applicant must: be at least 18 years of age; pass a criminal background check; have a high school diploma or equivalent; hold and maintain a valid Rhode Island driver’s license; and have and maintain CPR certification.
Applicants must be able to operate motor vehicles safely, know applicable traffic laws and rules, be familiar with geographic locations in the Town of Glocester, be fluent in English, and be prompt, courteous and sensitive to the needs of passengers.

PROBATIONARY POLICE OFFICER The Town of Glocester is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of probationary police officer. Recruits will be expected to attend the July/August 2025 academy.
Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 18 years of age, and possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate. Applicants must meet medical, physical and psychological standards and must pass an extensive background investigation.
